Today I’m going to teach you how you can install bbPress. A forum software brought to you by the same people who made WordPress. The popular blog hosting site.
First, you’ll going to need to download bbPress. But not from their site. Because they suck. They’re good at making free software but they cannot even fix a simple problem on their site. Basically, when you try to download bbPress from their site. Their server is not returning the correct file size for the download and the browser will have trouble deciphering what the heck is the file size and the result would be, you guessed it right, infinite download. That’s today and that’s just me, I don’t know if it’s the same for you so don’t take my word for it. You might as well want to try to download from their site.
But if you don’t want to try, then download it from softonic.
All you have to do now is to extract the zip file on your web accessible folder. Preferably the www directory when you have installed WAMP. And htdocs folder when you have installed XAMPP.
Just extract it there and make sure you have the index.php file after opening the extracted folder.
Now, access it on your browser by typing in:
That’s the default name, if you changed it to something else. Then just type the name of the folder.
Next thing that you need to do is to make a database for bbPress. To do that, just launch MySql console:
and type in:
create database bbPress_db;
Just click on go to step 1. Then enter your MySql database credentials.
Default user would be root with no password. And the database name would be the one that you entered on the mysql console. Then click next.
Just click next when you see this screen:
For this guide, we will not integrate bbPress to WordPress. So just click on skip. But if you want to integrate it to WordPress then you must already have WordPress installed.
Just click on Go to step 3
Input your site credentials. Anything you wish to put here would be accepted as long as it is valid. Just use the screenshot below as an example
This would be the final screen that you would see for the installation process. Just click on complete installation.
You can now navigate to the newly created forum by typing:
Its aoknforum because it is what I have entered a while ago. As you can see in my screenshot. You might have to rename the bbPress folder on your web directory. Because the one you entered in the site configuration a while ago should reflect the name of the folder in your web directory.
If everything is fine then you might see something like this:
But as you can see, there are some errors above. So we might as well use a different php version when trying to use this one. Just read on the other article that I made here on how to use different php versions on wampserver:
Check also the requirements for bbPress so you have an idea what php version to use:
That’s it for the installation of bbPress.
