How to change MySql port

There are times when applications tend to use the same port. And this causes conflicts. Like malfunctioning of the applications which are involved.


In this guide I’m going to show you how to change the port which is used by MySql. This guide is only for those who are using Wampserver and Windows Operating System.

First thing that you need to do is to launch Wampserver. Left click on the tray icon. Select MySql then click on the my.ini file. And open that up using any text editor:


The one that we need to change is obviously the port number:


Just change it to any number you want. As long as it is 2 to 5 digits long. And the port number should not be similar with any of the port numbers which are used by some of the applications which are installed on your system.

You need to download currports from Don’t worry because its absolutely free. And most of all, its portable so you don’t need to install anything.

The interface looks like this. And will give you an idea which application uses what port:
